The Mirror Brass Quartet will perform Tuesday, July 2nd at 7 PM for the free TPAC “On the Green” Concert. “Music with Friends” will include rousing hunting horn fanfares, lyrical songs, and toe tapping marches. The program is appropriate for families, including children of all ages. There will be a Solo for Hose and Funnel played by Chicago Symphony hornist, Daniel Gingrich. Susanna Gaunt (also a hornist with the CSO) will be performing, as well as tuba soloist, Matt Gaunt (yes, they are married!). Mary Gingrich (a hornist and married to Dan) is also a member of the ensemble. Island resident Norm Schweikert (and former CSO hornist) will be joining as a guest artist for the evening.
The Washington Island Music Festival’s Mayfest fundraiser was a huge hit with all who took part. Those who came out to support the Festival were entertained with a lively concert full of virtuoso perfomances, a delicious meal in the beautiful Historic Island Dairy atop 14 beautifully decorated tables with some amazing auction items to bid on.
The concert was an intimate experience with the chamber orchestra musicians playing quartets, trios and duos in the sanctuary at Trinity Lutheran Church. The audience was delighted to hear Steven Colburn and William Helmers playing a series of duets, while Samantha George and Dawn Gingrich played a series of short violin duets by Bartok. Marlee Sabo, accompanied by Jacob sang three short pieces while the rest of the program was varied and lively. All were smiling as the ensemble ended the concert by leading the audience in singing “When Island Eyes Are Smiling!”.
The Historic Island Dairy was a beautiful setting for the delicious meal catered by Lois Jessen as well as displaying the carefully decorated tables from our first annual Table Setting Contest. Each table was set with a different theme, from a Downton Abbey table, a Packers table, a table with original oil canvases at each place setting with total of 14 beautiful tables. The winners were chosen by participants voting with their dollars and the top winners were; First Place – Washington Island Observer, Second Place – Patty Herschberger, Third Place – Connie Westbrook. We are looking forward to seeing what you have in store for next year!
We would be amiss if we did not mention all the fabulous auction items that were available this year. There was gourmet dining experiences, portrait sessions, artistic originals, a sunset cocktail cruise and much more. Thank you to all who donated your products and services.
A big thank you to all who took part in this year’s Mayfest fundraiser! Everyone had fun and we appreciate your support!
